Thursday 23rd May – Windsurf ** River Orwell at Levington – sunny
periods.

18.68 km., 13.59 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham
Storm 6.5.
After missing yesterdays foilable breeze I was keen to get out today before
the wind disappears and it looks like we will be having family staying, I
was keen to get out today and with the wind offshore Levington was the
venue with a good middle of the day high tide:) So after a 9 o clock trip
to Felixstowe dump where I got rid of loads of old windsurfing kit
including two boards and several sails! I then learned that a few were also
heading over to the marina so after breakfast I set off, sadly it was a
dull start and arrived by the River Orwell at 10 as the East Anglian
Sailing Trust were setting up to take out a group of special needs kids and
boy what fun they had, in fact they took another group out I nthe
afternoon! This is the first time I had been to Levington since 7th April
and it was nice to be back and I hoped there was enough breeze for my 6.5.
I set up my foil board as Robert arrived and said there was a bad accident
east bound on the Orwell bridge so no ther sailers made it here today! I
rigged my 6.5 as did the much lighter Robert and to start with it was fine
and I had several OK short runs across, the wind was probably wsw meaning
there was not much wind down the river! As I was having trouble going
upwind of late and on taking advice from a local foiler racer saying try
swopping my rear wing spacer so I swoped my minus 1 to a plus 1 and to be
honest it didn’t seem to make a huge difference but will keep it in as
the wind today was inconsistent! So after runs in front of the marina I was
beating up river towards Pin Mill as the wind really eased back, I slowly
made my way back across the corner but the wind nnever returned and with
the tide turning I decided to call it a day, shower and pack up as Mag
arrived after coming on the bus and walkig the last 2.50 miles with lunch.
We enjoyed our picnic in the van watching old barges passing as the wind
picked up again!
